Angela, it’s brookie! My husband actually tivo’d that show, so we ordered calamari and made a night of it. Did you hear the part where he goes, “AHHHHH HAAAAAA HAAAAAAAH…The anus!” We’ve been quoting that all weekend. Stupid hectocotylus. We too were crushed to discover it was a chick. Better luck next time I guess.

What I find deeply disturbing about this is that I too watched the show, and knew the answer. Which makes the entire global audience you, me and MEB. And Kali, the border collie mix.

It was not a boy squid. The assumed hectocotylus was in fact a mangled tentacle. Assumptions were made, feelings were hurt, careers were ruined.

You know what happens when you ASSume? Thats right, you risk making a spectacle out of the entire squid research community.
